Literature Text

The Cage is frozen shut.
And I heard giving up is all the rage.
But that stubborn bird still sings a song.
Nobody knew why that stubborn bird sang,
Nobody knew except me.

From the highest of mountains
to the lowest of valleys,
her golden voice rings though.
For she speaks of freedom
and justice too.
No ruler can held her down.

We can all learn from this singing bird
that is words are great.
Words can create love
and wash away the hate.
So speak up before it is too late.
Even though we have only one voice and it may be weak,
if we speak it together, we are strong.

This is a response poem to Maya Angelou's I Know Why the Cage Bird Sings
